Nina Brooks
The sound of Nina Brooks can be compared to a modern Dusty Springfield add a touch of Natalie Merchant, with the rock n roll cred of Sheryl Crow. She has played venues ranging from pizza restaurants, to vineyards, 30th birthdays, classic NZ bars, cheese factories, and folk clubs to Biker rages. With a songwriting penchant that has been known to bother her at 4am, - on occasion saved the house from catching fire.. Collaborating with several teams over the years her style spans several genres and listening to an album’s worth won’t leave you bored. She is inspired by the usual things that tend to get at the human soul; nature, love, the state of things - one thing she will stand up for is Eco Development having established a side project called Ethic Homes. But that’s another story.
Nina has recorded her own songs over the years, done backing vocals for others, survived several name changes, appeared live with a few of NZ’s favourites and like many an NZ musician, does it mostly for the love of it. Graduating with a BA in Theatre & Film from Victoria University of Wellington she still acts up a fair bit. She has dabbled with the idea of starting another girl dance group one day – it would likely be a piss-take mind…
